The new scout year 2020/2021 has began in Spain. After an atypical summer, without any summer camps, the scout activities have returned. Of course, they have been clearly defined by the pandemic situation we are living in. However, none of the preventive measures has been an obstacle for wolf cubs, guides or scouts to keep living the first-hand scout experience.
Following the protocol established in June by the association, different units across the country have met again in order to start the new year.
All the chiefs have been working throughout the summer in order to acquire training and knowledge on the risks and measures needed, to now be able to adapt these into their activities. That way, neither the temperature control, the reduced groups, the masks nor the constant disinfection can keep them from achieving their goals.
In Madrid, Valencia and Catalonia many ceremonies and celebrations took place, as wolf packs received new members and some of their wolf cubs moved onto the young guide and scout units.
Furthermore, in Madrid, and more specifically in Valdemoro, where a new group is being built, the year started with the celebration of the Scout Promises of their future chiefs. The other groups of this autonomous community, like Santa Ana, San Pedro Mártir and Virgen del Carmen, also had their first activities and celebrations while constantly fulfilling the sanitary procedures.
In the autonomous community of Valencia, the groups of Santiago Apóstol and María Inmaculada also went back to their activities enjoying a great day in the mountains. In fact, one of their chiefs pointed out how happy her wolf cubs were afterwards and how this “fulfills your heart with joy and gives you the enthusiasm and excitement needed to keep working throughout the year”.
And with this same delight, the groups in Catalonia, from Barcelona (Santa Maria del Remei and Beat Pere Tarrés), Sant Feliu (Santa Bernadette and Sant Joan Bosco), Igualada (Mare de Déu de Montserrat) and Manresa (Santa Faustina Kowalska), came back to their activities.
Moreover, the new Akela of the wolf pack Santa Bernadette, from Sant Feliu de Llobregat, was sworn in by her group chief – a position that she has taken with so much joy.
One of the wolf cubs from the Beat Pere Tarrés wolf pack said how he “was especially excited about coming back to scout activities with his wolf pack because his younger brother was joining and he had already been telling him all about it for days”.
