After the election and confirmation by the Master of Order of Friars Preachers, and his acceptance, Brother André Luis Tavares, OP., who is also the National Religious Adviser of the Association of Scouts and Catholic Guides of Brazil, became the 7th Provincial Prior of Province of Friar Bartolomeu de Las Casas in Brazil, on 28 January 2022.

The prior provincial has the duty to promote the authentic spirit and life of the Order, encouraging, with energy, the friars to serve the people of God for the ministry of the word.

Brother André Tavares is 40 years old. He was born in Jaboticabal/SP. Before joining the Order dos Pregadores, was a seminarian of the Diocese of Jaboticabal/SP, where he studied philosophy.

Brother André made his first profession in the Dominican Order on January 7th, 2006. He was teacher for student brothers between 2009 and 2015. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from the Federal University of São Paulo – USP and the University Paris IV (Sorbonne). He works as a teacher in the philosophy department at FAJE (Jesuit College of Philosophy and Theology), in Belo Horizonte/MG.
