We build Europe!

FEDERATION OF
EUROPEAN SCOUTING

INTERNATIONAL UNION OF GUIDES AND SCOUTS OF EUROPE

For more than 60 years, European Scouting has been promoting an authentic brotherhood among the peoples of Europe and beyond, thanks to the scouting method. Scouting is a life lesson (school of life), enabling tomorrow’s citizens to grow personally. It also creates strong and peaceful ties between peoples and countries.

Serving the human and spiritual growth of the younger generation, the International Union of Guides and Scouts of Europe – Federation of European Scouting (UIGSE-FSE) federates today more than 73,000 children, teenagers and volunteers in 27 countries.

WHAT WE DO

Complementing family education, we help children to grow into accountable, strong and happy Christian citizens, open to others, consistent in their thoughts, words and actions, i.e. into reliable grown-ups.

Growing through play

All learning activities rely on games adapted to the age of the children and the teen-agers: that is the best way to train their memory and to develop their capacities.

Progressing in autonomy

From 8-year-old cub scouts to 20-year-old unit leaders, each age group has an opportunity to grow in responsibility and autonomy under the benevolent guidance of elders.

Developing skills

Scouting activities reveal hidden talents and develop new ones thanks to a step-by-step development approach and many practical activities special to scouting that you will find nowhere else.

Experiencing brotherhood

As in a family, young people share times of happiness that unite them; they also learn how to manage their differences with an unconditionally welcoming mind.

Loving nature

Most scouting activities take place in nature, a place of discovery and real wonder, quite different from screens and the urban world in which most of us live today.

Opening up to others

From the daily Good Turn to the retirement home shows, service is there to think further than self. Twinned camps with other units, especially foreign ones, will help to discover other cultures.

Our Day-to-Day Commitment

Since the movement was founded in 1956, hundreds of thousands of young people have benefitted from this education, thanks to the continuous commitment of thousands of volunteers, priests and lay people, often parents and former scouts. This year, this means:

COMBINING STRONG ROOTS WITH OPENNESS TO THE WORLD

“Europe is a unique mix between its own millennial history and a large variety of diverse cultures and traditions. This is, in my opinion, the greatest treasure of our continent: a treasure that has brought a lot to the world for centuries, and which still has more and more to give.”

Paolo Morassi

Italy

“I could have chosen many other youth organisations in my country! I chose a European youth organisation because to my mind the only way to truly create European unity is to allow true friendship among the youth of our countries. It’s very simple, but it’s the most important step in the development of a united and brotherly Europe, before even setting up any institutions!”

Louis Marin

France

“What I see growing continuously is a true Europe of the heart, a friendship beyond borders. Eurojam and Krakow’s World Youth Day gave me the taste and thirst for a united and brotherly Europe, in which we can live our values and our faith, in order to diffuse Christ’s love on earth where we were sown by the Lord. It’s up to us to germinate hand in hand through European scouting!”

Alix Dieudonné

France

“I think Europe’s greatest treasure is to have at the same time a visible cultural unity and a large variety of nations. I have experienced this diversity as an opportunity: during international youth meetings, we only need little communication skills and goodwill to understand one another, and differences turn into assets or at least interesting elements, but never into issues.”

“Since I was born I’ve been lucky to be able to call myself a European, and thus when I discovered the Guides and Scouts of Europe it was the perfect fit for me! To know that all across Europe there’s a true brotherhood of scouts that share the same ideal, the same values and principles is one of the main reasons why I’m part of this great movement.”

Janine Claro Cramer

Spain

“I committed to European scouting because it gives me unique opportunities to share my faith, my culture and the history of my country with others, and to get to know better other young people from all over Europe, together with their culture and their country’s history. That’s to me a great testimony; friendship, the spirit of joy and brotherhood are beyond any political game.”
